How to pick the perfect tennis racket for you

Get a grip on the different types of tennis racket to pick one that suits you.

You need to have a tennis racket that suits your body, your skill level and your playing style.

A good racket will help to improve your game while an unsuitable racket will hold you back.

Here are some basic tips on how to pick the best racket for yourself:

When you’re just starting to play the game you probably want to opt for a power racket.

This is a racket that’s designed to give you more control and support in handling and help to compensate for any lack of skills. It offers a much larger head which gives you a greater area to hit the ball with.

This is important for players who haven’t yet developed a lot of accuracy with their swings. A power racket also provides a heavier head which helps to give more power when you are swinging the racket, giving greater force to hit the ball and a much stronger return.

More experienced players may want to look at an intermediate or ‘tweener’ racket.

This will be much lighter than a power racquet and can have a big or small head, depending on your skill level. If your accuracy is good you can use a smaller head while if you are still working to hone your accuracy skills then a bigger head would be good. These intermediate rackets are longer than a power racquet and will give more control as well as power from your own strength and skills, rather than what the racquet provides you with.

Advanced players should consider a control racket.

The next step along is a control racket. These are much heavier and with a much smaller head size than a power racket and many of the tweener racquets.

A control racket will generally allow you to have more control during your game but you are losing some of the power that a power racket provides so it’s important that you can generate enough power in your swing to handle the ball.

Your skill level is perhaps the most important factor in selecting the type of racket for yourself but it is also important to ensure you pick a racket that is right for your size and that feels just right in your grip.
